doggy musts

- Have serious peep commitment for the entire life of the doggy; which could be a dog-gone time.

- Lots of love and attention (this will always be returned many fold).

- Always give your dogs access to clean, fresh drinking water.

- Good walks, several times a day, are great for a doggy's mind, spirit and waistline...and their peep's too! Great for socializing both owner and pet!

tippertee-top-tips

- Puppies rock but never get one on impulse. Hold those horses and think seriously if the time is right to get a furry friend. Can you give him the time, love, energy, food, training he needs? Do you have enough money to take care of him? He doesn't need pocket money as he doesn't have pockets, but he will need you to be able to pay for his vet fees and his ruff! food.

- Be careful as some plants can be poisonous to dogs.

- Never allow kiddies to grab or chase a dog. Its best for both parties!

- A stunning collar and identity tag are a must. Your dog needs to have your details on him if he gets lost otherwise he may not be able to find his way home...dogs can't read maps you know.

- Perhaps get a rescue dog? You don't even need a superhero outfit as your dog will think you his hero just by giving him a safe and loving home. Puppy power!!

- Be super-careful if you are using a retractable lead especially near roads. We don't want any accidents!!

- Get on the social scene! Not clubbing but go places to socialise your dog. Meet new furry and non-furry friends. Its good for you both.

- Stair gates are great if you want to keep your pooch out of certian areas as they will still be able to see you and he won't feel isolated.

- Are you cool? Stay cool, calm and collected. Dogs can feel an atmosphere and can get upset, withdrawn or scared if the home is full of tension. If you lose your temper with your dog, he will find it hard to trust you. So chill out and play ball.

- Use games to train your dog. It makes learning fun. Keep it short though as even fun stuff gets hard work, and end the game on a high. Then everyone is happy.

- Don't let your furry friend get bored. Rotate the toys to keep them fun. Perhaps get a toy you can fill with treats to keep them occupied when you are outshopping or something?

- When giving a treat, don't hold up too high so the doggie has to jump for it. Otherwise he will think this is what he has to do to get food and then he'll be jumping all over the place rather than sitting like a good boy!

food tip-bits

- It's best to introduce changes to diet gradually. We don't want any upset tums do we?

- Always keep the water and food bowls clean.

- Hypoallergenic gluten free pet foods tend to be potato or rice based. This helps with certain common food allergies. Pet foods containing cereals such as wheat, maize, barley or oats are not gluten free. (ruff! has hypoallergenic gluten free meals too!)

- Just like us, our furry friends should eat food that is as "natural" as can be. Junk food is bad for us and our doggies too! (ruff! is anything but junk food. Just real wholesome human grade ingredients used)

- Avoid artificially bright coloured foods as they are only meant to appeal to peeps not pets! Some artificial colours and preservatives can cause hyperactivity amongst other things in certain doggies. (ruff! never uses artificial colours or preservatives)

- Try not to leave food out all day as it is not only yucky but could make our furry friends a bit fussy or dominant. We don't want a bossy pet, it's bad enough having a bossy mother who tells you to tidy your room!! (It will be a minor miracle if you get left over food with ruff! as its super scrummy)

- There are some human foods that can be toxic to our pets so don't give the following foods to your doggies.

Chocolate, Onions, Grapes
